Disturbing Recording Shows Instant Law Enforcement Get Knifed in Ambush
One senior officer that leaped to the aid of a colleague that was assaulted by a knifeman was granted the King's Commendation for Bravery.
Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a knife to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist following a traffic accident in that location in July 2023.
Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Policeman stabbed," the constable was heard to say over his communication device.
Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording released by the force revealed Brown, wearing in black with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a blade outstretched.
He ran into the policeman who lost balance and fell to the street, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the pavement despite being repeatedly struck with the knife.
Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and sought a clear shot, concluding the fight to an end.
Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get something on my neck now, I got knifed in the throat."
Sgt Ansell suffered two deep cuts to his neck and more injuries to his arms and torso, whereas Sgt Foster suffered knife wounds.
Officials said Sgt Foster employed his hands to control his partner's hemorrhaging before medical personnel reached the scene.
The latest honor arrives after the law enforcement team were granted organizational Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area Police Federation in April 2024.
They were also awarded a Area Bravery Award in mid-2024.
