French Authorities Investigates Shein and Temu After Adult Toy Incident

Online retailers such as these four major platforms are presently being probed in the French Republic for the offence of enabling minors to access adult information on their platforms, the Paris prosecutor announced on Tuesday.

The country's consumer watchdog had reported the retailers to the judicial system on Sunday after expressing alarms about the marketing of youth-resembling intimate products on their online marketplace in recent days.

The Paris prosecutor's office explained that the platforms are being investigated over violent, adult or “undignified” material that can be seen by minors.

AliExpress asserted that it considers the matter very seriously. These companies have also been reached out to for comment.

Broader Investigations and Company Responses

Two of the retailers are additionally under investigation over the distribution of information related to youngsters that are of a pornographic character, the office mentioned.

The cases have been referred to Paris' Office des Mineurs, the legal body added. This office is an arm of the French police force that oversees the protection of underage individuals.

The platform commented that the products in dispute contravened its rules and were taken down once it learned of them.

"Sellers found to flout or attempting to evade these standards will be penalised in accordance with our guidelines," the platform said in a release.

On this Monday, the company announced it had outlawed the sale of all adult toys on its platform internationally. The based in Singapore company also stated that it would ban indefinitely all merchant IDs involved in the unlawful sale of the childlike items and implement more rigorous controls on its platform.

Regulatory Body Assessment and Larger Scenario

The regulatory authority, the DGCCRF, had said that the sex dolls' listing details and classification left "little doubt as to the exploitative character" of the products.

The investigation of the retailer comes as the firm, which was established in the People's Republic of China, makes arrangements for the launch on this Wednesday of its inaugural long-term real-world store in France.
