UK Armed Forces Sites to House Refugee Applicants in Bid to Cease Hotel Usage
Hundreds asylum seekers may be accommodated in armed forces facilities as the authorities works to end the utilization of hotel accommodations.
Talks are ongoing regarding the utilization of two facilities - one in the Scottish region and the other in the south of England - for accommodation for nine hundred males.
The Prime Minister has directed Home Office and Defense Department officials to expedite initiatives to identify proper military sites.
The government has vowed to end the utilization of refugee hotels, which have cost substantial taxpayer money and turned into a central issue for immigration opposition demonstrations.
Under Consideration Defense Facilities
Individuals may be accommodated in the Cameron military facility in the Scottish city and Crowborough army training camp in East Sussex by the conclusion of the coming month.
Commercial facilities, temporary accommodation and previously unused facilities are also being reviewed for future accommodation.
Authorities Commitments
Administration officials indicated that each location would comply with health and safety standards.
"Our administration is deeply troubled at the scale of unauthorized immigrants and refugee lodging facilities."
"The current leadership will close every asylum hotel. Efforts are advancing rapidly, with better facilities being proposed to ease pressure on local areas and decrease refugee accommodation expenses."
Current Accommodation Data
Nearly 32 thousand refugee applicants are at this time being housed in temporary lodging, representing a decrease from a maximum of more than 56 thousand in last year.
A recent report found that billions of public funds had been "squandered" on asylum accommodation.
Previous Defense Site Usage
Two ex-armed forces locations - the Wethersfield facility in Essex and Napier Barracks in southeastern England - are already being used to house refugee applicants after being established under the previous government.
The administration head remarked on the situation, indicating: "I am resolved to shut down all asylum hotels. I can't tell you how frustrated and angry we are that we've been left with a mess as substantial as these developments by the former leadership."
