A 15-year-old adolescent has been punished to life behind bars with a lowest period of 16-year period for the murder of other schoolmate Harvey Willgoose during a lunch period.

Deadly Learning Environment Incident

Mohammed Umar Khan stabbed Harvey, similarly 15, through the heart with a large blade at the city's learning facility in the winter month.

The presiding justice lifted the identity protection limitation on the killer during sentencing at the judicial building.

Caroline Willgoose stated she was relieved the lowest period had been determined higher than the legal minimum of 15-year period.

"My parent has been receiving cancer therapy through the court proceedings and he just couldn't persist any longer," she expressed.

Circumstances of the Assault

Before the murder on 3 February, Khan and the victim had adopted different sides in a separate conflict between two other pupils.

Security footage from the day of the incident showed the assailant approaching Harvey in the outdoor area soon after lunchtime.

Witnesses described a scene of "disorder", with individuals "fleeing, shouting all around" during the violent incident.

Court Process

Throughout the court case, the accused claimed he had not planned to murder the victim or cause him serious harm, asserting he could not recall what had happened.

Prosecutors maintained that he had "desired to show he was hard" and "was aware exactly what he was doing".

"You served as the aggressor and... you proceeded in distress and rage at what you considered to be his betrayal of your friendship," pronounced the justice during sentencing.

Aftermath

The educational institution published a message conveying that Harvey was "deeply mourned every day by the entire educational community".

Investigators stressed the devastating outcomes of carrying weapons, noting that a "split-second decision" can permanently alter various existences.
